The New York Times is seeking an enterprising journalist to join our Asia team to help cover the region and its place in the world. The ideal candidate will have a foundation in breaking news, with the ability to cover a multitude of topics from a variety of nations, including politics and people, economics and business, culture and society.  The coverage is constantly changing with the news environment, so we want someone eager to react quickly as necessary. Strong writing skills and a broad understanding of the region, particularly China, are a must. While news will be a central focus of the role, we are also looking for someone with the ability to write thoughtfully and deeply about important issues and events, as well as identify opportunities for enterprise.  Here is what you’ll be expected to do:  Follow news, events and cultural trends in the region to determine issues worthy of coverage as breaking news, day news or as enterprise. Contribute to live briefings for the region and for other global events, writing briefing-length stories, joining planning meetings and providing reporting. Build a network of sources in and around the region that will inform rich and original reports, news and features about the region. Cover news accurately and efficiently; maintaining and cultivating news sources and contacts; obtaining information through interviews, observations and research. Collaborate with other reporters in the region during major news moments. Work with colleagues across photo, video, audio and other departments to bring stories to life in a variety of formats.
